How a source is verified

Each host is classed the way the API classes every record's provenance, so this list and a record's sourceKinds never disagree. The basis says why: a person classed it, it is a catalogued maker's own website (link-checked weekly), or it is a .gov or .mil domain.

• Authority: a maker's own site, a standards body (SAAMI, C.I.P.) or a government or military site: the strongest evidence for a figure it states.
• Classified: a reference work, an aggregator, a press site, a retailer or a community site, classed by a person: evidence of the strength its kind carries.
• Unclassified: not yet classed: counted as "other", the weakest kind, until a person classes it from what the site is.

Every cited site

The registry is rebuilt whenever a record or a classification changes. A site is classed from what the site is, never from what it is cited for, and one not yet classed counts as the weakest kind until it is.
