Source checks
Where each record's figures come from, measured on the same source hierarchy the API publishes: how many records cite a page on their own manufacturer's website, how many cite any authority at all, and which heavily cited sites the hierarchy cannot yet name.
What it asks
A record cites its maker when one of its sources is a page on its own manufacturer's website, the website the link checks confirm every week. A page, not the front door: a maker's home page proves the company exists and nothing about the firearm. A page on another maker's site does not count. This is what the "Cited from the maker" mark on a record rests on.
Cited from the maker is not the same as verified. A record can cite its maker's page and still carry a figure that page does not state. A figure is verified only when it has been read against the page, and the record lists those fields in verifiedFields.
A record cites an authority when any of its sources is a maker, a standards body such as SAAMI or C.I.P., or a government or national museum. Retailers, press and forums show that an item exists; an authority states what it is.
Every site cited by five or more records should have a kind in the hierarchy. One the hierarchy cannot name is reported with how many records lean on it, and classifying it is how the list of trusted sources grows from what the catalogue actually uses.

What happens to a finding
- Every run is published here as it happened, failures included, before anyone has looked at it.
- Each run is also kept as a report that lists what was fixed since the run before, what is new and what is still open, so progress is measured finding by finding rather than claimed.
- No check edits the catalogue. A finding goes to a person, who corrects the record by hand and cites what the correction rests on; the next run confirms it.
- A check id is never renamed, so a link to one keeps meaning the same question.
